Although Jar of Hearts is the sequel to Glow, it can be read as a stand alone.

My life is better off when I am alone. That way I can't ruin anyone's life but my own.

Well, that is what Maria Anderson believes anyway, especially after what happened two years ago. She is a player- dates wealthy handsome men, comes and goes as she pleases without a worry in the world, and sleeps around. To Maria, she is just one of the guys.

When her Manhattan apartment floods due to the neighbor's beastly dog above her, it leaves her no choice but to stay with her best friend, Vanessa Montello which so happens to also be her boss at Glow magazine and Vanessa's fiancé Ben until she can find another apartment.

Little does Maria know that staying with Vanessa and Ben rips the frayed Band-Aid revealing a fresh wound from two years ago. That wound being Ethan Montello, the extremely gorgeous brother to Vanessa that was highly off limits.

Take Maria, Keith, Marc, Ethan, an erratic best friend/boss, an extremely annoying yet childish Benjamin McGurthy and what do we have? Maria's turn... her turn for her very own HOT MESS!

Jar of Hearts is technically the sequel to Glow, but stands well all on it's own. Infact I felt the story of Ethan and Maria way more heartfelt and earnest than their predecessors Vanessa and Ben. Molly Bryant just gets better and better with every book she writes.

Maria as a character is sad and flawed. She get's into your heart, and as her story develops you see why she considers herself unable to love. Maria could be anyone of us. We all sabotage love and relationships in our own ways. In our own misguided pursuit of perfection. It takes the strong willed Ethan to teach her how to love. And to awaken feelings she never knew she could have.

Bryant does this in her trademark sweet and sexy way. She weaves characters and situations that are at once meaningful, and funny. Take the rehearsal dinner scene for one. I laughed out loud and had to put my Kindle down to grab a tissue. She can take a tense situation and turn it into a memorable potato throwing smackdown. You feel like you know these characters and want to dive right in with them.

I did feel the ending was a little rushed. I would have liked to see Maria and Ethan get a little more time before they ran down the aisle. But Bryant makes up for it with a cute little twist in the epilog. I actually didn't see it going that way.

Hands down I would read anything Molly Bryant writes. Her stories are sweet, romantic escapes from life. She just keeps getting better with each new release. A diamond in the Indie book world.

Jar of Hearts Glow sequel edition by Molly Bryant Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Some background -- I'm a heavy duty romance reader and since I received my kindle 14 months ago, I've read well over 200 romance novels.... most by independent authors. I support the independent author movement and encourage good writers by purchasing their books.

I was moved to buy this book by the title, synopsis and the cover -- there weren't enough reviews posted when I bought this so I took a chance. I expected a lot more to this than what I got, especially since there's another book in this series.

The basic plot/story is good. This could have a made for a great foundation upon which to build both the characters of Maria and Ethan. However, the synopsis of this book leads the buyer to believe that this can be a standalone book. After reading Jar of Hearts, I'm not sure that's true (but admittedly I haven't read Glow). I found a lot missing regarding Maria's personality and why she is the way she is. I wanted to read MUCH MORE about her -- I love strong female characters, those who aren't ready to fall in love because of their past/family, etc. And I like to read about them in-depth. But there just wasn't enough to pull me in and get me to relate to her. Perhaps there's more in Glow?? But the synopsis says this is a standalone so I guess I have to chalk it up to lack of depth in the writing? Not sure that marketing this as a standalone is really accurate? Too many questions, for sure.

The sex scenes were hot - I could definitely feel the sexual chemistry when they first got together... but as time goes on and there are other encounters between these two, I want to see the sexual relationship also develop, and that was lacking somehow. Since this is a book, I would have wanted to read more about what they talked about when they met, besides just being attracted to each other. It also could have used more sex, frankly.

Note that the cover leads the reader to believe that there could be 3 men vying for Maria, but Keith and Marc ultimately are filler and barely worth photoshopping their names onto the hearts on the cover... but I liked the cover - it was colorful and a change of pace from the steamy half-naked covers I see on a regular basis.

I'll conclude by saying that I'm a stickler for certain kinds of grammar If you are a writer it's pretty important to know the difference between they're, their, and there and properly use them in a sentence. Knowing the difference between a veil and a vale is also important when you're writing about a wedding. When to use an apostrophe to show possession, etc. This writer needed a good proofreader. I would have bumped this to three stars if grammar rules were applied.
Maria and Ethan were definitely a cute couple, trying to find their way to each other as they both went through stuff within themselves. The overall story line was good, but there were a lot of editing and grammatical mistakes, which at times detracted from the story. I always wonder how books can be published like this with such obvious mistakes- like on every page too. Never hurts to read through one more time before hitting the send button.
***3.5 Stars*** I was drawn to this book from reading the blub and while I was not disappointed, I was not ecstatic about it either. It is a good story of finally coming to terms with love and accepting that you have fell in love. I was rooting for Maria and Ethan through the whole book. I enjoyed the banter between the characters, it really gave the book a light hearted feel. If you are looking for a feel good book that is a pretty easy/quick read, I recommend this book.
Let me start by saying that I did not read Glow. But I did really enjoy Jar of Hearts. I thought Maria was really hard on herself but I enjoyed every moment of her interaction with Ethan, and her friendship with Ben. This story had everything heartbreak, betrayal, hot hot sex and lots of it, laughter and of course, love.

My one gripe is Vanessa. I know you think you're protecting your brother but I feel a real friend would have said all that she did to her friend's face. Sometimes you have to just lay out there with your BFFs and to not do that and then do it in such a heartless way...unacceptable.

Other than I loved this story a lot.
